Mobile Web

Although many mobile devices can already access the Web, actually browsing the Web from a mobile device is often a frustrating experience. Users normally find that their favourite Web sites are not accessible or more difficult to use on their mobile phone compared with their desktop computer. Content authors have difficulties building Web sites that work well on all types and configurations of mobile phones that offer Web access.

As the number of mobile devices continues to outpace the number of desktop computers, the creation of mobile-accessible sites is becoming more and more important. Most websites now have a noticeable amount of visitors using mobile devices. We've been looking at how to make it easier to build websites that can be accessed through popular mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Google Android phones.

The result is the FastPublisher Mobile Module. Once installed, it provides out of the box functionality to render an FastPublisher CMS website using a mobile-optimised theme, with the page width, font size, and menu layout designed for a small screen. While you can certainly use this out of the box theme, it's mainly supplied so that someone familiar with HTML and CSS can customise the theme to suit your intended look and feel.

Fast Publisher Mobile CMS is capable of storing and delivering content and services to mobile devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, and PDAs. Popular products includes iPhone, iPad, and Andriod Phones.

Demand for mobile content management increased as mobile devices became increasingly ubiquitous and everywhere. Our Fast Publisher Mobile CMS make mobile web publishing easy.

Mobile Device Detection & Redirection

The mobile module provides detection for mobile devices, and can serve a different theme to them. The module can either use redirection to a separate mobile domain, or serve mobile optimised content under the same URLs.

Reusable Content

It is essentially a container for some chunk of code that performs a specific function. The basic purpose of our mobile module is to make a mobile-friendly version of any already existing FastPublisher site in just a few clicks. That is, all your content will be immediately accessible by mobile devices.

There are two ways of usage:

1. Display of the mobile version of a site for the mobile browser, i.e. on the same link http://yoursite.com/ it is possible to see both the full and mobile versions of a site depending on the device used for viewing. This is referred to as the 'multi-client' approach.
2. Display of the mobile version of a site for a subdomain, e.g., for http://mobile.yoursite.com/. This is referred to as the 'multi-site' approach.

W3C Mobile Web Initiative

The Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) was set up by the W3C to develop the best practices and technologies relevant to the Mobile Web. The goal of the initiative is to make browsing the Web from mobile devices more reliable and accessible. The main aim is to evolve standards of data formats from Internet providers that are tailored to the specifications of particular mobile devices. The W3C has published guidelines for mobile content, and is addressing the problem of device diversity by establishing a technology to support a repository of device descriptions.

FastPublisher mobile module is developed following the guideline called "Mobile Web Best Practises". All the page layout can be validated using W3C mobileOK Checker.
